continues. the police officers who responded to radio calls about a gunman inside sandy hook elementary school described what happened. >> approaching the scene, there were approximately six children that were running from the scene, which added to our knowledge that, yes, this is real. >> reporter: first responders arrived within minutes of the 911 call that came in the morning of december 14. officers say they broke windows to get inside to search for the shooter. >> i heard the gunfire and i went towards it. >> reporter: investigators say the gunman, adam lanza, shot himself when he heard police coming. police chief michael keho says it was a horrific scene when he reached the part of the school where 20 first graders and six adults were shot and killed. >> i was devastated. absolutely devastated. i had no words. >> reporter: he says it was clear no one in the classroom could be saved. >> you feel a sense of guilt in that you weren't there quick enough to do that. but i also know that our response stopped that threat, and he could not proceed any further. >> reporter: newtown police

". funeral and memorial services for the 26 children and adults killed by a gunman at the sandy hook elementary school are coming to an end. services for two of the first graders were held yesterday in connecticut. another memorial service was held in utah. officials say newtown, connecticut, is being inundated with gifts from around the world. in fact, they say the donations, including some 60,000 teddy bears-- are simply too much for the town to handle, they're suggesting gifts for organization serving needy children elsewhere. hawaiians are paying their last respects to senator daniel inouye in honolulu. funeral services will be held later today. the president and first lady michelle obama, now vacationing in hawaii are expected to attend. in japt, the ruling muslim brotherhood government says a proposed islamist-backed constitution has been approved by voters. in new delhi, police used water cannons for a second day to break up protests over the gang rape and beating of a 23-year-old woman on a bus last weekend. the protesters are demanding the death penalty for all six suspects

days after her seventh birthday inside of sandy hook elementary school. the family said she will be remembered for her sense of humor and love of the baltimore ravens. mourners were asked to wear purple today. josephine had been diagnosed with autism. a fund has been set up through her name. you can donate to the address on your screen. be sure to specify your contribution is in her memory. donations have poured into shoulder the pain of the shooting. the united way has collected more than two and a half million dollars for the memorial fund and private fund-raisers have collected hundreds of thousands more to pay for memorial services. the town has also seen a stream of toys and food donations but the united way is asking people to stop sending toys and do charitable work or make a monetary donations. the debate over gun control continues in light of that tragedy. one of the latest issue was placing armed guards in schools. some are taking it a step further. lawmakers in 10 states are considering laws that would allow teachers to carry firearms. it is generating a lot of co
